Our History

Technology Festival Association of BC (TFABC) is a Sunshine Coast based organization dedicated to promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education and careers, notably with students in Grades 1-12, with a strong focus on grades 4-7, years during which youth reflect on their interests and consider possible careers.

School curriculum stresses hands-on activities tied to science and technology, which makes for a great fit for the TFABC programs.
TFABC programming includes an EGG DROP EGG-sperience during which students craft a structure to hold a raw egg which is then dropped from a fire engine ladder truck. In 2025-2026 seven elementary schools participated. The full and enthusiastic support of the Gibsons and Sechelt Fire Depts is a huge element of the program. Young people (but in truth people of all ages) like to hang around a fire truck!
The POPSICLE STICK BRIDGE BUILDING CONTEST has been a major part of our
programming, growing from 50 bridges in 2018 to 189 in 2023 and then a huge rise to 366 in 2024. According to the Sea-to-Sky Branch of Engineers and Geoscientists BC our Bridge Contest is the largest in BC. The incredible success and added support requirements coupled with the loss of key volunteers, caused TFABC to suspend the program in 2025-2026 to allow TFABC to re-group. Through the 2025-2026 year TFABC worked with the SD to define a program that would better suit a much higher level of student engagement. It is anticipated that the Bridge Contest will resume in 2026 – 2027 school year.

In 2026 TFABC jumped in on a ROBOTICS PROGRAM at SD46, with the donation of $2k to purchase three Lego Robotics Kits. This donation was reported in Coast Reporter newspaper which led to a member of the community, Fumiko Suzuki, stepping up with her own donation of $2k and three kits, allowing the School District to acquire a sufficient supply for a full class of students.
In 2024 and 2025 TFABC hosted the SKILLS CANADA PUBLIC SPEAKERS CONTEST for the Region (Vancouver, West and North Vancouver, Squamish and Coast) .This provide a solid success, with students joining us from the Vancouver region.
